SAW Components: Excellent selectivity for GLONASS navigation system

EPCOS has developed a SAW filter for the Russian navigation system GLONASS with very good nearby selectivity. This is particularly important due to the very close proximity of just 15 MHz to the neighboring satellite telephone service Inmarsat. Even in the nearby range the new SAW filter achieves an attenuation level of 25 dB over the entire temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. At the same time the attenuation in the pass band is only 2.5 dB. Moreover, the filter features a very good group delay ripple of just 12 ns.


The SAW filter is optimized for the use in GLONASS’ upper L-band at 1593 to 1610 MHz. This band is most commonly used for applications with GLONASS receivers.


The component is packaged in a 3 x 3 mm² small, hermetically-sealed SMT ceramic housing, therefore making it suitable for use under very adverse environmental conditions such as large and frequent temperature variations, strong vibrations and shocks. The filter is qualified for the requirements of the automotive industry according to AEC-Q200 and is available under ordering code B39162B3529U410.
