The focus is on pressure and temperature measurement for automotive and industrial electronics as well as for consumer electronics. In addition, we are showing for the first time Tronics inertial sensors for demanding applications, especially in Automotive and Industrial. NTC sensor elements for temperature measurement up to 650 °C

The EPCOS NTC sensor element designed for measuring temperatures up to 650 °C is based on a high-temperature ceramic sensor element that is connected to a metallized aluminum oxide rod and then glass-encapsulated. The H650 sensor element offers high-precision measurement with a temperature tolerance of about ±1 K at 200 °C. The component obtains its particular ruggedness from the glass encapsulation. The sensor is available optionally with wires welded to the aluminum-oxide rod. The component is 16 mm long and the glass encapsulation has a diameter of 2 mm.

The high-temperature sensor is qualified to AEC-Q200 and designed for use in especially demanding automotive electronics applications, for example, in exhaust gas recirculation systems. These are used mainly on diesel engines to reduce excess oxygen in the combustion gas and thereby minimize the formation of nitrogen oxides at high combustion temperatures. In the recirculation systems the NTC sensors measure the temperature of the exhaust gas and thus help to protect the engine against overheating – in particular, the cylinder head and valve seats.

In e-mobility applications the new sensors are able to monitor the temperature of fuel cells that are used in electric vehicle drive systems for the direct generation of electrical energy from hydrogen. Applications can also be found in household appliances, for example in self-cleaning ovens that operate on the pyrolytic principle. These work by heating the oven interior to a temperature of about 500 °C which breaks down the long-chain molecules of the food residues and reduces them largely to gas and ash. The necessary temperature is regulated and stabilized by the NTC sensors.

Miniaturized differential pressure transmitter with an extended range

The EPCOS MiniCell™ series of pressure sensor transmitters offers an extended range. These miniaturized media-separated differential pressure transmitters are available for unsymmetrical measurement ranges from 0 to 500 hPa and 0 to 2500 hPa. In addition, variants are offered for symmetrical measurements from -500 to +500 hPa and -2500 to +2500 hPa.

With dimensions of only 19.6 x 16.2 x 11 mm3 the differential pressure sensors feature a compact design. Two stainless-steel membranes are incorporated to separate the media. All MiniCell variants have a small oil volume and use a single chip approach for genuine differential pressure measurement. This enables showed high accuracy and reproducibility of the measurements.

The stainless steel membranes and supports also make them suited for use in aggressive media. The electronics of the MiniCell transmitter are hermetically sealed in inert oil inside the ceramic package. The transmitters are designed for a broad temperature range from -40 to +140 °C.

Precise angular rate measurement with inertial sensors 

The new Tronics GYPRO3300 MEMS gyro sets a benchmark in angular rate measurement. It is factory-calibrated and temperature-compensated by means of an integral temperature sensor, enabling it to operate with stability and precision over a wide temperature range. It delivers a 24-bit signal via a serial peripheral interface (SPI), and the bias instability and angle deviation exhibit excellent values of just 0.8°/h and 0.1°/√h, respectively. These values far exceed the requirements of the automotive industry.

With its excellent performance in a single-chip solution, the Tronics GYPRO3300 qualifies as best-in-class and also offers compact dimensions of just 19.6 x 11.5 x 3.7 mm3. This MEMS gyro is therefore suitable for extremely demanding applications such as the stabilization of oil drilling platforms, aircraft navigation, attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS), as well as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The compact MEMS inertial sensors are based on the Tronics Magellan process technology that offers a new level of integration, enabling the measurement of as many as 6 axes in a single chip.
